Eargo 6 will change modes depending on your environment

There are no rewards for guessing what this is doing, but the company claims that its proprietary algorithm can automatically sense your surroundings and that hearing aids will automatically optimize to give you the best settings for it. Profiles are a fairly standard feature on most hearing aids, but automatic switching is usually something reserved for more expensive models, and they all do it with different levels of success, at least in my experience.

The difference is that Eargo 6 is much smaller than most other products that offer similar technologies. Being small is great and a major selling point here, but it also means there are far fewer properties to fill with sensors and chips. Nonetheless, Eargo seems to be devising smart ways to bring his offer to parity with his (physically and metaphorically) greater competition.

Of course, CES 2022 would not be without several COVID-related influences. In the last two years, people with hearing impairments have faced a new challenge: talking to people wearing masks. This not only removes visual feedback, but also mutes the sound – a double blow for those struggling to understand you. As such, the company has introduced a “mask mode” that aims to address some of the changes in sound created by face masks.

Other settings this time include a revised noise reduction with the company claiming to further reduce background noise by allowing voice to break through. Eargo 6 also has an IPX7 rating for water resistance. This means that they can be submerged for 30 minutes at a depth of one meter without damaging the water. In practical terms, this means you can probably leave them while taking a shower or a short swim. Or, more logically, you can get some of them while cleaning them.

Since we’re not physically at CES this year, we haven’t been able to test them as usual, but if in previous years it’s something that’s needed, a daring little hearing aid is only getting smarter and more useful. As usual, the Eargo 6 is sold directly to consumers and will sell for $ 2,950. In terms of hearing aids, this is roughly the rate for higher-end models, although the company also offers financing options.
