(Reuters) – Demand for electric vehicles forced US carmakers last year to unveil plans to spend billions of dollars on electrifying gasoline models or introducing electric cars and trucks in a bid to catch up with market leader Tesla (NASDAQ 🙂 Inc.
General Motors Co. (NYSE 🙂 and Ford Motor Co. (NYSE 🙂 Co. are among those leading the chase. Last week, Ford’s market value rose above GM for the first time in five years in a sign of increased investor confidence in its electrification strategy.
Brokerage Wedbush estimates that the electric vehicle (EV) market could be worth $ 5 trillion over the next decade. Here is a list of major U.S. EV companies, along with their models and deliveries, if applicable:
TESLA INC
** Tesla, led by billionaire Elon Musk, sells four electric vehicle models: the Model S luxury sedan, the cheaper Model 3 sedan, the Model Y SUV and the Model X luxury SUV.
** Musk said that the most valuable car manufacturer in the world intends to deliver its second generation of roadsters and semi-electric commercial trucks in 2023.
** Production of his long-awaited Cybertruck is likely to begin later this year, with mass production in 2023, he said.
** Tesla delivered 936,172 EVs in 2021
GENERAL MOTORS CO
** GM paused retail sales of its Chevrolet Bolt EV after a series of fires last year. Delivered 24,828 Bolt EV / Bolt EUV in 2021.

** The first deliveries of GM’s electric Cadillac Lyriq are expected to begin in the first half of 2022.
** GM began shipping the EV600 van last month, and the smaller EV410 will add in late 2023.
FORD MOTOR CO
** Ford sold 27,140 Mustang Mach-E electric crossovers last year.
** Delivery of the F-150 Lightning electric truck is expected in early spring this year.
** His 2022 E-Transit van is expected to go on sale this year.
RIVIAN AUTOMOT
** The company unveiled its top-of-the-line R1T and R1S SUV in 2018 and began selling both 2021 models.
** Deliveries of Rivian EDV (electric delivery van) started last month with Amazon.com Inc (NASDAQ 🙂 as the first customer.
NIKOLA CORP
** Nikola Corp, involved in legal and management issues, began delivering its Tre battery electric truck on December 17th.
** The company says its hydrogen-powered electric fuel cell truck with a range of up to 500 miles will be available from 2023.
LUCID GROUP
** Lucid began deliveries of the Lucid Air Dream Edition luxury sedan on October 30th.
** The company says it will start expanding into European markets in 2022, and other plans to reach 20,000 vehicles this year.
