The latest transparent ‘shelf’ OLED LG Display can display or enlarge works of art

Nothing screams future technology like transparent OLED screens, and the LG Display has just that discovered its latest concepts and prototypes for CES 2022, The Verge reported. All concepts were created by LG Display (an independent sister company of LG Electronics) from 55-inch 1080p OLED panels with 40 percent transparency using its 8th generation manufacturing process.

The most visually interesting model is the OLED shelf, which consists of two 55-inch transparent OLED screens placed one above the other and on top of the shelf. The idea is that you could display artwork on one screen and a description of the art below, for example. It also has a sheet of opaque material that can be rolled like an eyeshadow to make the screen look more like standard, non-transparent OLED. At the same time, if the screens are off and the opaque material is rolled up, you could see objects behind the screen like real images.

Other screens are designed more for advertising and commercial clients. Shopping Managing Showcase can be placed in front of physical products, adding graphics or effects like VFX smoke to enhance them. Meanwhile, Show Window can display sticker-like graphics in front of clothing or other products to make the shop window more attractive. LG Display said that versions of the latter are already used in the fashion store in Seoul, and even in Smithsonian in Washington, DC.

LG Display already he showed up a variety of curved screens, including a continuous screen that wraps around a stationary bike and a curved Media Chair concept. The new transparent screens are just concepts and prototypes, but that being said The Verge that it could help customers develop them into products and that the OLED shelf is ready for production.
