Why does a director love disaster?

The country may not have a bigger opponent than the director Roland Emmerich. The man seems determined destroy the planet, or at least look to be destroyed. Or maybe he just wants to see an almost human civilization completely deleted. Anyway, he put on the screen more footage of how the Earth was completely destroyed than anyone else alive. He is the undisputed master of film catastrophe, s Michael Bay in a far second place.

After having his first big hit in 1994 Stargate, Emmerich had the aliens destroy the 72 largest cities on Earth Independence Day, killing three billion people. He was far more restrained in his awful 1998 Godzilla a film where the Monster King only destroyed parts of New York, followed by similar chaste Patriot. But then he created super-storms that flattened the planet’s surface before ushering him into the new ice age of 2004. Day after tomorrow, destroyed what may have been the first city of mankind 10,000 years before Christand then strained the human race on 900,000 people after the violent terraforming of the Earth in 2012. After a few relatively less destructive films, ID4 the aliens attacked again Rebirth, destroying most East coast of Eurasia and North America. Next month, Emmerich will brutalize the planet again The moon is falling.

But why? According to Wikipedia, “When accused of resorting too often to scenes of cities subject to epic disasters, Emmerich says it is a justifiable way to raise awareness about global warming and the government’s lack of a plan to prepare for a global doomsday scenario in cases of Day after tomorrow and 2012that is. ” It is a noble idea, but no explanation justifies the pornography of destruction Independence Day movies and The moon is falling.

Perhaps the simplest answer is that the job of destroying pornography is very lucrative. Despite constantly making movies critics and audiences generally dislike it, that audience is still watching them. Independence Day: revival earned $ 390 million internationally, while Godzilla earned $ 380 million, Day after tomorrow $ 550 million, and 2012 earned nearly $ 800 million, but none of these four films have a critical or audience rating above 50 percent on Rotten tomatoes. In fact, Emmerich’s films deserve astonishing $ 4 billion dollars in total.

See how many unique things have been torn down, and in how many unique ways. How many senselessly close calls Cusac’s limousine and plane have on, around and through things as they fall apart. How completely Los Angeles was destroyed, and the scale, creativity, and thoroughness of the disaster were shown on screen. It is a symphony of destruction, played by smashing buildings, exploding roads, collapsing overpasses and debris. All the screen disintegrates, collapses or rises in the air except the limousine. Sure, Michael Bay loves his explosions, but he could never pull something like this, nor would he necessarily want to. Roland Emmerich, on the other hand, has unlimited enthusiasm to see the planet and its inhabitants suffer – and based on his announcements, The moon is falling could be the director’s most devastating film to date.

To quote Alfred Pennyworth dark Knight, some men just want to watch the world burn. And in the case of Roland Emmerich, he wants you to watch it burn.
